There is so much work to do..so many deadlines to meet... and my mind has blanked off....it refuses to cooperate, move an inch..... the work pressure must have blown a fuse.
I wonder if this is a common phenomenon... a way the mind blocks strain and tension...or just plain procrastination from my side....Whatever it maybe it is irritating!
At least today was sort of a vacation with both my bosses out... Days such as these are hard to come by, but highly cherished and am sure this sentiment is shared by all of us proletarian fools.
Please do not consider me jargon mouthing intellectual because of the word 'proletariat'...its just that people around me use these words a lot... and eventually things rub off on you..
Coming to intellectuals...the pseudo ones....have always scared me. I feel totally out of depth in the company of such people, though my Shakespearean tragedy is to be saddled with these species day in and out. I personally do not have anything against them but who would want to spend their lives with someone who uses terms like 'epistemological disengagement'... Seriously i didn't know such a word existed in English language!! Sadly it does and is used commonly by the Intells while talking about the political economy of India.
I have always believed that the depth of ones knowledge and understanding is reflected in the way you impart it to other...the simpler the explanation the stronger your understanding is....the high sounding jargon are for those who either think their knowledge is not meant for the us common mortals or for those who have a passing knowledge of the subject. This trend becomes even more distressing when it is followed by people working in the social development field... people who work with the poor , the oppressed. The analysis of the problems and issues faced by the poorest of the poor is done by Academicians and these pseudo intellectuals who talk in terms such as subalterns, marginalised, epistemological, structural functionalism blah blah blah.... They never realise the deep gorge between them and the the people they are talking about...never realise why the politicians and religious fundamentalist ,they criticize every waking hour, connect to the 'janta' the poor and marginalized so easily.
Intellectual analysis of issues/ communities/ history/ culture is important , it provides the base of every movement, every struggle for rights.... But it should not overwhelm the movement itself, alienating the people and creating a different kind of elite snobbery.
Amidst all this i am scared they will turn me.... I hope they don't for the sake of my sanity!
